James 1

The study tour achieved its objectives of deepening knowledge on wastewater treatment, reuse technologies, and best practice management systems on industrial water recycling based on the Korean experience; facilitating a collective understanding of circular economy principles amongst stakeholders to encourage shared ownership of the proposed solution; and encouraging discussion amongst the participants on coordination, financing and regulatory hurdles to implement the proposed solution.

Participants were able to identify and narrow financing options not identified before the study visit and businesses were better able to appreciate the importance of co-financing after discussions with Korean counterparts regarding circular economy principles and how private sector as both beneficiary and polluter has an important role to play in the proposed solution for Amgalan area.

Participants appreciated that KGGTF staff also joined the study tour and provided exposure to Korean technological solutions.

The team and participants agreed that a final workshop held in Ulaanbaatar in May to conclude the ASA findings, and for the participants to present the final proposal to broader stakeholders, would help take the proposal forward.
